It all started Months ago. An invitation to come view this new Haven. To view through the Phoenix Gate. New York City...Manhattan.
It started with a phone call MJ had made to her. "Come see. I swear, you'll love it!"
Mika had her best interest at heart, having been tired of watching her cousin cave in on herself. Royce didn't view it as that. Royce viewed it as survival. Just bury herself so far into herself that she couldn't be hurt..that she wouldn't hurt anymore.
But Royce had come anyway. Why not? She was bored running around in Brazil at the time. Nothing was new anymore. Places revisited, nothing changing. Hell, even the heists weren't exciting anymore. Royce had given up on a lot, not caring, never finding a place to settle, no where to call home.
She had worked a long time to forget her past, forget the pains. Those she had once considered friends were locked away in her mind.
So she had come..and not even a few hours within being in that bustling city, she ran right back into those friends. And it had hurt. Seeing Xavier and Azrael, slowly realizing....that past she had worked so hard to bury away and forget...came slamming back with such a force it left her in shock. It had taken her a bit of time to readjust..it had taken er even more time to even consider trusting again.
But then..another factor had struck. Kenji.
She hadn't been prepared for that, and she tried hard to keep the doors shut around her. She had tried cementing crumbling walls. But no one was giving in, forcing her to face it. She fought hard against it...old feelings for Xavier...old feelings for Kenji threatening to overwhelm her barriers.
Then came Josh. He had been an outside force, soothing her, calming her, and showing her a different way to view things. In her eyes, he was too good for her. Even with the differnt views, she knew it was inevitable.
And everyone knew the story from there.
It started with a phone call. And then she saw it. The diamond. That priceless jewel that the silly news wanted to flaunt off to the world. "Untouchable!" they claimed. Guarded..priceless...they issued the challenge in so many unworded ways.
So she took up that challenge. And she did it. She almost made it. Almost. Xavier had to help in the end, when she got cornered. But still..she had still managed to snag the piece without anyone knowing for quite awhile.
It was that simple mistake. At the time, oh no big deal right? So she got cornered..but she got away.
But then Azrael had brought her the news. The Feds had sent out the bounty hunter after her. What timing too, considering that the gang after Mika also decided to set out on her tail...though they didn't know the pricelessness of Royce.
The Triads did. When they figured out who she was, and crossed her with the jewel theft, they became extremely interested. So much so that they feigned an alliance with the Blood Rat Gang. Stupid fools.
It all started with that phone call.
And it ended last night. At least in Royce's world. Adair had warned her to be careful...to not stress. The previous weeks and all the drama had made her pregnancy unstable. But with Adair's mystical treatments every night, Royce had become lax. She became lax..and she became bored. On her own, she went out. On her own she wanted to check the jobs. On her own.
She blamed herself. It wasn't Xavier's fault. He didn't know what she had done that night. It wasn't Josh's fault. It wasn't Az..or anyone's. It was hers.
She laid in bed sobbing softly, curled up with her arms about her stomach.
It had started with a phone call. It ended with the loss of one of those triplets.
One of her babies. Gone. Dead.
All because of a fucking stone.
All because she was too headstrong...all because she didn't listen. She didn't listen to Xavier..she didn't listen Az..or Josh..or Kenji or Adair. She didn't listen when they told her to rest. She didn't listen when they told her to take it easy.
Kenji had left her alone, believing she was asleep, and when he left out, she had begun her crying. She finally slipped from bed, dressed in an overlarge teeshirt, and moved to the window, leaning her forehead against it as she stared outside.
"I'm sorry my baby ...Tristan." She said quietly, tears sliding down her cheeks. "I'm so sorry Tristan. Rest in peace.."
She took a slow breath, hearing her phone going off. She glanced to the nightstand, just watching it until it fell silent, then turned to look out the window again.
"Fuck you Belle.." She muttered. "FUCK you...you've killed all th' others..why th' fuck didn' ya stop this damn curse with me? Why let me live?"
