Frank whistled to himself as he stepped out of the bar, taking one last look around to make sure everything was in place. He pulled the door shut, sliding the key home to lock it. Then came that metal grating down to lock it up even further. It hadn't been a half decent night. For once the owner and his slap happy and blood thirsty buddies left him pretty much alone. Then he got some pretty decent business throughout the night.
He continued to whistle as he walked towards his new junker, since his last one somehow mysteriously ended up through the vacant building next door. He knew it had been Mika despite her sweet smiling denial on the matter.
Keys were pulled out and he yanked the car door open, only to grunt as he was shoved back against the door, which slammed shut on his hand. He howled, trying to yank back, but the feel of the knife against the back of his neck stopped him from making another move, although he couldn't help the whimpers and whines of pain.
"Shhhhh..." came a soft, deep voice. "Tell me where I can find someone, and I'll let you go.."
"Anythin'..anythin'! Please..my hand.."
"In a moment.." The voice bore the hint of something vile, malicious, that made Frank's hair stand up on end. "I know a woman who hangs out here by the name of Mika Jade Chance...where can I find her?"
"Wh...what ya plannin' on doin' ta her? " Frank grew some balls didn't he? Or regrew them anyway.
The man behind him sighed, and one of his gloved hands came to lay against the door, which sent Frank into another series of howls as the pain shot up his arm. "Where..can I find Miss Chance?"
"I dunno! Please! My hand!" Frank sobbed. The man eased up from the door, and Frank continued. "Look...she be my boss's liedy..ya dun wanna go messin' with his stuff.."
"Where, Frank? I'm beginning to lose my patience.." As if to prove his point, Frank felt the skin along the back of his neck being sliced open. It was done with such ease, it took a moment before the sharp stinging pain hit him. The poor bartender shook in his shoes.
"Look mister..I can't tell ya...." And suddenly Frank gave another strangled howl, as that sliced skin...began to be pulled away. Frank went to turn to strike out blindly, but for some reason suddenly felt too sluggish to move.
"Well, then. If you can't tell me...then I'll leave a little message eh?" The smirk sounded in the stranger's voice, and the knife slid down Frank's back, cutting his shirt in two...as well as leaving a thin trail of blood down his spine.
The screams and howls filled the air, scaring off alley cats and dogs. Those out in the night gave pause as they listened to the pain that filtered down the street.
Then it was quiet, and Frank laid stomach down, knocked out cold, on the ground beside his car. His hand was crushed, his ring finger gone. His shirt remained open, blood covering his back, except for the faintly glowing green runes inscribed along either side of his spine.

Mika had left the dojo, feeling a bit put out at the time. She wandered the streets, coming across a man about to rape a young girl. The poor frighten girl's emotions became one of confusion as the man suddenly seemed to disappear, and later authorities would wonder at a lifeless corpse found in a dumpster three miles away.
Even later, she was back on her perch atop the pillar starting the gates about the Park. Lately she had the feeling of something about to go wrong. Everything was too quiet for her tastes, and she was getting restless. Her times with Azrael seemed ...too peaceful, and she found herself struggling to remain as aloof to their situation as possible. Memories began filling her dreams, leaving her tossing for most of the day when she should be sleeping. Questions given to her were brushed off as her just being bored and wanting something to do. Even jobs seemed without any excitement.
It was much later when she snapped out of her daze, hearing the faint sounds of a man's scream. A familiar sound..a familiar voice. She frowned a bit, hopping from her perch and headed towards the bar, which she knew should be closed by now. Her hands were in her pockets, her senses alert, and she missed the shadowed figure walking and turning down an alleyway four blocks from where Frank lay unconscious.
